Spring News 2012
Welcome to Napa Valley where the weather is so wacky we never know what to expect. Last night I thought I would see the wicked witch flying by my house, the wind was blowing so hard. The week before it was nearly 80 degrees and before that there was a blanket of frost on my garden beds and we were all bundled up for winter. And did you hear? There were so few rain drops this winter you could practically count them. But now it is dumping away and there is more rain to come. So what does all this mean? We shall wait and see! Last year was definitely a most chanllenging growing season, but, I have to say, the wines in barrel are turning out to be real beauties. The way I see it, we have been blessed for so many years with near perfect growing conditions it's time for us to buckle up and face some hardships. Only makes us stronger!
News flash...there will be a new kid of the block this year and I am so very excited! Those of you who ventured to this "news section" of the website can email me anytime and say you would like some reserved please. This new wine is called Amrita, meaning the nectar of the Gods (and Goddesses in my book) and is a delicious blend of Malvasia, Viognier, Pinot Gris, and probably Riesling. The blending trials are literally happening as I write, so stay tuned and what for new developments! And to complement this new family member, I just bottled more of that seriously fruity, dry Rose of Pinot Noir I can't manage to keep in stock.
Please browse away, there are some fun, new releases to try. All small batches of single vineyard, minimal intervention wines that truly express the sites where they come from. Keep checking on my Abiouness Wines Facebook page for more nonsense and possibly visits to your market. Contact me if you would like a visit or simply need some more info. And most of all, keep laughing (a glass in hand helps).
Cheers, Nicole
